Studio Christian Wassmann has an immediate opening for an Intermediate Architect with 3-5 years of experience in all phases of the design process with a focus on Construction Documentation. CLT experience is highly preferred. 

Founded in 2005 in New York, Studio Christian Wassmann started designing lofts for artists and the studio of East Village Radio on First Avenue. Today’s projects range from spaces for nonprofit arts institutions to pavilions, commercial galleries, objects, and private houses. We collaborate internationally with architects, engineers, designers, artisans, and builders to serve our clients’ needs. Our architecture aims to connect individuals to one another, to themselves, and to the cosmos.


This freelance contract position is based at our Studio in the West Village, New York City. We are only considering applicants with at least 50% in-person availability. Responsibilities include feasibility and concept design, drafting, client engagement, consultant coordination, liaising with governing jurisdictions, and reviewing specifications. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills are required in addition to design and graphic representation clarity.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Master’s Degree in Architecture

  • Architectural license preferred; positive progress towards architectural licensure acceptable

  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience and 5+ years preferred

  • Strong design, graphic, and communication skills; thinking through making

  • Proven history of critical thinking, design exploration, and client engagement

  • Proficiency in conceptual design, space planning, model making, construction document development

  • Strong proficiency in architectural drawing standards and development, including detailing

  • Rhino, Enscape, AutoCAD, Photoshop
